Burtynsky Collection (BSC)

In designing my works, I strive for simplicity and purity in form and materials. I wanted to combine wood and iron. The iron needed to retain its identity, but rusted iron was too rough to place next to finely finished wood. After nearly a month of trial and error, I developed a patina technique using localized heating. I decided to use wood from fruit trees to maintain material purity, crafting each lamp body from a single slice of a trunk to preserve the wood’s grain. To reflect light better, I applied copper paint inside the lampshades.

Once the first collection was ready, I varied the forms and sizes, creating a product family combining iron and wood. I named this family in honor of Edward Burtynsky, drawing inspiration from his photographs of mines for the patinas on the iron and the design lines.

This family includes four lamp collections available in walnut and cherry wood.
